You’ve booked your dog’s Daycation evaluation. Now what?
If you’re like most pet owners, you’re probably wondering what your dog’s day is actually going to look like.
Will they make friends?
What if they’re a little nervous?
How do you know if they’ll enjoy daycare?
Those are all great questions, and they’re exactly what the evaluation is designed to answer.
At The Pet Station Country Club, we didn’t create another dog daycare. We created a place dogs couldn’t wait to come back to. That’s why we call our program Daycation. To us, it really is a day of vacation.
Our goal isn’t simply to provide a safe place for dogs to spend the day. We want them to come home fulfilled after a day of running, playing, exploring, learning, and spending time with friends. We want them to pull you through our front doors because they know they’re about to have one of the best days of their week.
That’s why every dog starts with an evaluation. Not because we’re looking for the “perfect” daycare dog, and not because your dog has to pass a test.
We simply want to answer one important question: Will your dog truly enjoy a Daycation?
Some dogs absolutely thrive in an active group setting. Others are happier with quieter activities or more one-on-one attention. Neither is right or wrong. Every dog has their own personality, and our job is to understand yours before recommending the best experience.
So, what exactly happens during the evaluation?
The First Play Session
Your dog’s evaluation is designed to set them up for success from the moment they arrive.
After spending a little time settling into their private room, it’s time for the first play session.
Rather than introducing your dog to a full group all at once, we start with an empty play yard. This gives them a chance to explore their surroundings, sniff, and get comfortable before meeting anyone new.
From there, we introduce one dog at a time.
We carefully choose the order, starting with one of the calmest dogs in the group and gradually working up to the more energetic personalities. This slow introduction helps prevent dogs from feeling overwhelmed while giving us the opportunity to watch how they respond to each new friend they meet.
By the time the group is together, we’ve already learned a great deal about your dog’s personality, confidence, and play style.
What We’re Looking For
Our Canine Coaches are paying attention to your dog’s body language from the moment they enter the yard.
There’s no “right” way to enjoy Daycation. Some dogs are the life of the party, while others are happy making one good friend and taking breaks throughout the day.
By the end of the first play session, we’ve usually learned more about your dog’s personality than most people realize.
Some dogs immediately take off chasing new friends across the yard. Others proudly carry a tennis ball from one end of the park to the other. Some can’t wait to splash through the Splash Park, while others would rather follow one of our Canine Coaches around hoping for another game or a little extra attention.
Those are the kinds of moments we’re looking for.
Some of the signs that tell us your dog is enjoying Daycation include:
- A loose, relaxed body and wagging tail
- Choosing to interact with other dogs
- Inviting another dog to play
- Running, exploring, and confidently moving around the yard
- Recovering quickly after a new dog enters the group
- Seeking out toys, activities, or interaction with our Canine Coaches
- Checking things out with curiosity instead of hesitation
We’re also watching for signs that tell us your dog may not be enjoying the experience. That might include:
- Repeatedly trying to leave the group
- Hiding behind our Canine Coaches
- Staying tense or stiff for long periods
- Avoiding interactions with other dogs
- Becoming increasingly overwhelmed as more dogs join the group
- Showing us through their body language that they’re simply not comfortable
Dogs are incredibly honest. They tell us how they’re feeling every day. Our job is to listen.
What Happens After the First Play Session?
If your dog is loving Daycation, they’ll head back to their private room to rest, recharge, and relax before coming back out for another play session later in the day.
This second play session is just as important as the first.
By now, your dog is more familiar with their surroundings, they’ve met their new friends, and they know what to expect. That allows us to see a different side of their personality.
We’re watching for many of the same things we observed during the first play session.
Are they excited to rejoin the group?
Have they made a few new friends?
Do they seem more confident?
Are they still enjoying themselves, or are they becoming overstimulated?
Watching both play sessions gives us a much more complete picture of your dog. We get to see how they respond when everything is brand new and how they behave once they’re comfortable enough to simply be themselves.
If we feel your dog isn’t enjoying group play, we won’t ask them to push through it.
Instead, we’ll bring them back to the comfort of their private room so they can decompress. Then we’ll give you a call to talk through what we’ve observed. From there, you can decide whether you’d like to pick them up or have us care for them individually for the rest of the day.
One fact surprises many pet owners: only about 40% of dogs truly enjoy active group play.
That doesn’t mean anything is wrong with the other 60%. Some dogs simply prefer a quieter day with more one-on-one attention, enrichment activities, and their own private space.

The End of the Day
When you arrive for pickup, one of our Canine Coaches will walk you through your dog’s entire day. We’ll share what we observed, answer your questions, and explain our recommendation.
If your dog loved Daycation, we’ll help you choose a schedule that’s right for your family.
If we recommended UnoCare, we’ll answer any questions you have and help you get started with that program instead.
No matter the outcome, our goal is the same: helping your dog spend their days somewhere they’ll truly enjoy.
Setting Up Your Daycation Schedule
If your dog loved their evaluation, the next step is setting up a Daycation schedule that works for both you and your dog.
One of our Canine Coaches will walk you through our Daycation packages, answer any remaining questions, and help you choose the option that best fits your family’s routine.
We recommend a recurring schedule because dogs thrive on consistency. Regular attendance helps them become familiar with their Canine Coaches, build friendships, and settle into the Daycation routine.
Before you leave, we’ll schedule your dog’s first official Daycation so you’ll be ready for your next visit.
