How Often Should My Dog Be Groomed?

A fluffy Goldendoodle arrives for a routine grooming appointment. From the outside, the coat looks soft, full, and perfectly fluffy. But as one of our groomers begins working through the coat, they discover something hidden beneath the surface. Matting. Not just a few small tangles, but tight mats pulling against the skin. It’s a conversation […]

We’ve gathered answers to the questions we hear most often to help you feel confident and informed. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, our team is always happy to help.

Boarding & Daycation Experience

Does my dog get to play with other dogs while boarding?

No. Every boarding dog is cared for individually for feedings, potty breaks, play times, etc. If you are interested in your dog being involved in our routine daycare program, please fill out the Daycation Application located inside your Pet Parent Portal.

What are the pickup and drop off times for boarding?

Monday through Friday drop off for your boarding pet is any time between 1 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. If you drop off before 1 p.m. Monday through Friday, there is a $13 early drop off fee per pet.

What if my pet gets sick and needs to go to the vet during their stay?

If your pet has a pre-existing condition or becomes ill and needs medical attention, we will notify you and your emergency contact. We will do our best to use your pet’s personal veterinarian, but if circumstances warrant, we will do whatever is necessary to ensure they are cared for, including the use of a mobile veterinarian. For full details on this policy, please read our pet agreement when you register with our team.

Training

How often is my dog in training and what are they doing when they aren’t?

Our training dogs’ schedules vary day to day as each session looks different. Depending on your dog and the goal of each training session, you can expect shorter and more frequent sessions as your dog first begins their learning, then longer training sessions as your dog progresses in their skills. When your dog isn’t in a training session, they will either be resting in their private residence room or on a potty break with a boarding staff member. They will also have scheduled play times on your trainer’s day off!

Will my dog be sad or forget me?

If you will remember your dog while they are gone, then they will remember you! Our goal is to make training a fun and rewarding experience for your dog using toys, praise, play, and affection. Once we find what your dog likes, we use that to make training an enjoyable experience.

What kind of training do you offer?

We offer general obedience, puppy basics, off-leash obedience, behavior modification, muzzle training, and even trick training.

Do you do service dog training?

No. We recommend seeking out a trainer who specializes in service dog training.

Do you do therapy dog training?

We don’t evaluate or certify dogs for therapy dog work, but we can help build the type of good manners that are required for it. We recommend looking into therapy dog requirements from our friends at WAGS before starting the therapy dog journey.

What type of training methods do you use?

Our approach is balanced and positive-first, using rewards and play-based methods.

What type of training tools do you use?

We have a variety of tools in our toolbox, and we use whatever works best for the individual dog: harnesses, martingale collars, slip leads, Starmark collars, prong collars, and e-collars.

Board & Train

Will my dog forget me or be upset with me for leaving them?

We’ve yet to have a dog forget their owner or be mad at them when they’re reunited at the end of their program! In fact, the old saying always rings true: “Absence makes the heart grow fonder.”

Can I visit them during their stay?

For the vast majority of dogs, family visits aren’t permitted as they disrupt the dog’s acclimation process and confuse the dog. This can lead to a setback in their learning and be hard on them emotionally.

Wouldn’t it be better if I were involved in the whole training process so my dog learns to listen to me and not just the trainer?

Our trainers have the education, experience, and skillset to efficiently train your dog, so that you don’t have to quit your day job to become a dog trainer. We do all the heavy lifting and hard work for you, and then transfer all of the dog’s new skills over to you at the end of their training program during an in-depth go-home lesson.

Hours, Scheduling, & Reservations

Can I tour your facilities before bringing my pet?

Absolutely! We are always happy to show you around any of our locations. No need to make an appointment – just stop by any time we are open.

Do I need to make a reservation for Boarding or Grooming?

Yes! We want to make sure we have a room (or grooming table) available for you. Make sure to reserve your spot early, especially for the busy season (holidays and vacation times). We always run out of space during these times, so don’t forget to book!

What are your holiday hours?

We are closed to the public for the following holidays:
– New Year’s Day
– Memorial Day
– Independence Day
– Labor Day
– Thanksgiving Day
– Christmas Day

New Year’s Eve and Christmas Eve hours are 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Eligibility

What vaccines do I need for my pet?

Check out this link for a full view of what vaccinations are needed to get started at The Pet Station Country Club.

What are the requirements for my puppy to come to The Pet Station Country Club?

Puppies must have received their third round of distemper vaccine, both flu shots, and the Bordetella vaccine. Rabies vaccination is not required until your vet administers it.

Are deposits for boarding required?

Yes! Reservations require a 25% deposit to confirm booking. Full refunds are applied if cancellation occurs more than 72 hours before original drop-off date. No refunds are given if cancelled less 72 hours from original drop off date or within 30 days of the 6 major holidays as well as Spring Break.

If your reservation falls during one of the six major US holidays (New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, July 4, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, or Christmas Day) or Spring Break, two weeks out from your reservation, your dates are locked in and you will be charged the nightly rate for all dates scheduled – regardless of changes made after the two week date. No refunds of deposits are given if booking is cancelled within 30 days of the booking date that falls within the holiday date range. See facility for details.

My dog has special needs, can you accommodate?

Yes, we can accommodate dogs with mobility issues, incontinence, help with eating, medication injections, or extensive medication needs. In those cases, we charge a $16 per day fee on top of the nightly boarding rate to give the attention they require to have the best possible stay. Conditions may apply, so please reach out to our team to discuss your pet’s unique needs.

Health, Safety, and Care

What is Capstar and why is it given to every pet boarding at The Pet Station Country Club?

Capstar is a flea killer. Universal administration minimizes any chance that your pet will be exposed to fleas, both in the facility and through transmission from other dogs or cats. As it is administered orally, it does not conflict with your pet’s regular flea preventative. Capstar can be administered once daily if a pet infested with fleas is brought in. For further information, click here.

Does the facility use slip leads?

Yes, all of our departments use slip leads to safely transport to and from rooms, play yards, grooming areas, and for potty breaks. Slip leads are the safest way to ensure dogs do not unintentionally get loose from our team’s control as they move about the facility or during our sniff walks around the property.

Do vaccinations fully prevent my pet from getting sick?

No! No communicable disease in pets is fully preventable, including the flu virus. We make every effort to keep infectious viruses from entering our facility, but we cannot fully prevent them. Vaccines do, however, help your pet’s immune system to reduce the effects of viruses and prevent the spread of them.

Food, Medications, and What to Bring

If my pet is boarding, should I bring their food from home?

Yes! Being away from home is tough; having food you’ve never eaten before is tougher. We want your pet to be as happy as possible and their digestive tract will thank you by bringing individually bagged pre-portioned meals for them. Our house food is Hill’s Sensitive Stomach, which is a highly digestible food, should your pup run out during their stay.

What should I bring at check-in?

Vaccination Records: Make sure your pet is up to date on all of the required vaccinations. The health of the pets we serve is of the utmost importance, and we cannot accept pets without the proper proof of vaccinations under any circumstance.

What should I NOT bring at check-in?

Large Tubs or Bags of Food: Individually portioned bags allow us to feed your pet the correct amount and maintain their normal feeding schedule. If you prefer not to individually portion their food, we will do so when you arrive at a cost of $0.55 per meal added at check-out.
